When I was young, I used to live by the mountains about fifteen minutes away from my home. I spent many days hiking in those mountains and I have very fond memories of that time. It was a retreat from the summer heat of the valley into the cool and beauty of those mountains.

Painting this sculpture brought back those memories, especially the Quaking Aspens and the Pine trees. During the Fall, I and my family would drive up American Fork Canyon to see the trees and foliage. In the Autumn, the Quaking Aspens would be in glorious splendor and color with the leave shimmering in the breeze. As I was painting this sculpture, I knew that I needed a center of attention, so I painted in the  sapling to bring in the idea of new life. When I got through painting it, the sapling and the placement reminded me of a child playing Peek a Boo. It touched my heart, so I named this sculpture "The Peek a Boo Sapling."
