I used to go on hikes when I was a Boy Scout in American Fork Canyon. In the upper parts of the canyon, there would be a lot of Aspen trees. I learned to fall in love with the trees and the stark beauty of winter on those hikes. It would be so peaceful when we would get away from the other campers and I have very fond memories of the silence and the beauty. I also love seeing the snow during a sunset.
This is a perspective sculpture, meaning that when it is viewed from straight ahead, it all fits together. When it's viewed from anywhere but straight ahead, the image falls apart. It's fascinating to see how the layers fit together and then separate from each other when the viewer shifts from one view to another.
Just as a side note, you may notice in the video that the brackets holding the sculpture are different from the base in the photos. I was at an outdoor show on a very windy day, and a large wind gust blew at the back of the tent I was in and the back wall bowed and hit the table where this was standing along with three other sculptures and knocked the table over. I lost about $4,000.00 worth of art that day. This sculpture is the result of salvaging what I could from the incident and being determined to bring it back better and more beautiful than ever.
